A successful product design is often not only in the product itself, a good product design requires in the realization of the required functions at the same time, can be profitable to realize the processing and manufacturing of the product. To design a thermoformed product, you first need to determine whether thermoforming is the most appropriate process for manufacturing the product. Secondly, the design needs to do a good job in the selection of materials and the design of structural details. The specific manufacturing process plan and the control points of the manufacturing process, etc. At the same time, the environmental impact of the product after use is also something that needs to be considered in the design stage.
Product design concept
In determining the design of any product, at least three questions must first be addressed :· Does the product meet all the requirements and specified design criteria? Can parts be produced at the lowest cost for the projected market size? What will happen if the parts do not meet the minimum requirements?
These issues may seem simple, but they are intertwined and require complex technical and marketing analysis. First, in general, there may be several polymers that satisfy these problems. Environmental concerns, waste disposal, machine reliability or availability, and the impact of a trained workforce on the manufacturing process are considered next. The third question is very important in today's society. Plastic products can fail due to functional reasons, but the most common failure mode is customer "misuse", that is, the product is used in a way beyond the original intention of the designer. When designing for critical applications, the source of inherent defects must always be considered. Whenever possible, parts fail when used beyond the original design conditions.
It usually includes another question:
Can the product be recycled or disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner at the end of its useful life?
Design task
In the design of industrial products, the geometry of the final product is usually the most important. The shape often determines the polymer processing process that can be selected. For example, extrusion is the main method for producing linear or flat shapes, while blow molding is the main method for producing hollow shapes, injection molding is the main method for producing special shapes with rapid changes in wall thickness, and thermoforming is the main method for producing product shapes with near uniform wall thickness (thin wall is the most extensive application).
Typically, design tasks include the need to determine the main design features of each part, such as shape, maximum size, etc., including other design considerations.
