The Orthofx tray packaging is designed to protect the HA (hydroxyapatite) coating on two medical screws until they are used in the operating room. The HA coating is located on each screw.

After the screws are firmly fixed to the base of the fixator, the fixator cover will pass over the tray and click into place, thus forming a second safety barrier for the HA-coated screws.

   Overview
The Orthofx tray packaging keeps the medical screws suspended to prevent damage to the HA coating and affect the final performance.
The Orthofx tray packaging is designed to securely hold two medical screws with HA (hydroxyapatite) until they are used in the operating room. The HA coating is present on each screw, and this compound helps to reduce the risk of the screws backing out of the bone after being implanted in the human body.
The tray and all packaging components are made of PETG material. The tray packaging is designed in two parts (fixed tray and tray cover) and two pre-validated double-sterile barrier trays. The double-sterile barrier trays are the components that the customer currently uses to package approximately 2,000 different products they produce. Thanks to this improvement, the customer was able to save over $50,000, which is the average cost of validating a new medical package.
The customer had to find a solution that could fix the product without causing the HA coating to fall off in the packaging. By creating a locking holder for the head of the screw while keeping the body of the screw suspended, it prevents any HA coating from being rubbed off. This packaging does indeed prevent damage to the product, as without it, the HA coating might fall off and cause damage to the product.
