Analysis of the Application Scenarios and Advantages of High-barrier Packaging Materials in Meat and Aquatic Products
I. Core Characteristics of High-barrier Packaging Materials
High barrier packaging materials refer to composite materials with extremely low permeability to gases such as oxygen (O₂), water vapor (H₂O), and carbon dioxide (CO₂) (typically with an oxygen transmission rate of <5 cm³/m²·24h). Their core functions include:
Oxygen barrier property: It blocks oxidation reactions, inhibits rancidity of fatty acids and browning of myoglobin.
Moisture-proof property: Control the exchange of moisture between the inside and outside of the packaging to maintain the water activity of the product.
Temperature resistance: Maintains physical stability within the range of -40°C to 120°C.
Antibacterial property: Inhibits the reproduction of aerobic bacteria through gas barrier.
II. Typical Application Scenarios and Technical Solutions
(1) Packaging of Meat Products
Chilled fresh meat packaging
-Scene: Supermarket freezer display (0 - 4℃)
-Material combination: PA/EVOH/PE multi-layer co-extruded film
-Technical application: Vacuum shrink packaging (residual oxygen content < 0.5%)
Effect: The shelf life is extended to 21 days, and the meat color remains bright red (myoglobin oxidation rate is reduced by 60%).
2. Frozen meat products
Scenario: Long-term storage at -18℃
Material characteristics: Puncture-resistant aluminum foil composite material (thickness ≥ 90um)
Technology application: Nitrogen-filled packaging (nitrogen purity > 99.9%)
Effect: Fat oxidation value (TBARS) < 1.5 mg MDA/kg within 12 months
3. Processed meat products
(Sausage, ham)
Scene: Ambient temperature shelf sales
Material Innovation: Thin Films with Silicon Oxide (SiOx) Coating
Technical application: Modified atmosphere packaging (CO: 40% - 60%)
Effect: Listeria inhibition rate > 95%, shelf life extended by 3 times
(II) Packaging of Aquatic Products
1. Chilled fish and shrimp
Scenario: Cold chain transportation (-1~4℃)
Material solution: High-density polyethylene (HDPE) + oxygen absorber layer
Technology combination: Vacuum skin packaging + water-absorbing gasket (absorption rate ≥ 300%)
Effect: TVB-N value controlled at <20mg/100g (14-day cycle)
2. Frozen Seafood
Scene: Deep-sea fishing vessel quick-freezing (-40℃)
Material requirements: Low-temperature resistant and tear-resistant film (puncture strength > 80N/mm)
Technical application: Glassy state freezing packaging (ice crystal diameter < 50 μm)
Effect: Thawing loss rate < 5%, texture characteristic retention rate > 90%
3. Pickled / dried aquatic products
Scenario: Storage and transportation in high humidity environment
Material design: Aluminum-plastic composite film (water vapor transmission rate < 1 g/m²·24h)
Technical key points: Built-in desiccant (silica gel or calcium chloride)
Effect: Moisture activity (Aw) stabilized at 0.65 - 0.75
