KM Packaging Services has launched a new steam-permeable product, expanding its extensive range of function-driven professional sealing films. This film is compatible with polypropylene trays. The development of the steam-permeable film was driven by consumer demand for value-added functionality in heatable foods and snacks.
The new film can be used as a peel seal or a heat seal, with or without KM Anti-Fog, a series of innovative treatments led by the market-leading flagship product KMKlarity. Additionally, there are high oxygen barrier films, where the permeable holes in the film are coated to prevent air from entering or exiting, making the tray airtight. When heated in a microwave, the coating softens to allow steam to escape. Alternatively, a pepper pot hole can be placed in the center of the lid to allow steam to escape while maintaining the seal's integrity. In fact, depending on the contents of the tray and the desired permeability effect, the hole clusters can be placed in any specific position on the lid, or even expanded to several clusters on one lid.
Graham Holding, Business Director of KM Packaging, explains: "Steam venting itself is not new, but we have worked very hard to produce an innovative product that maximizes the benefits of this process without affecting the product protected by the film design. Our new steam venting film not only helps maintain the freshness of frozen or ready-to-eat frozen foods but also helps cook them faster. We not only provide films for sealing lids but also supply roll bags for vegetables, and all films can be printed to promote brand awareness while reducing unnecessary additional packaging."
