Dordan's slogan is "Seeing it Sells it", which was invented by the company's founder Edwin Slavin. It claims that retail products must be sold with visual packaging.
The "Visual Sales" concept of 1962
Dordan's slogan was "Seeing it Sells It", which was invented by the company's founder, Edwin Slavin. The assumption Edwin Slavin made in 1962 has now become an industry standard. This is thanks to an eye-tracking study, which found that plastic flip-top containers performed better than cardboard boxes in retail.
Visual aids
Just as in retail where products are sold with visual packaging, Dordan also relies on visual aids for brand packaging design. If you believe that packaging has the ability to either assist or hinder product sales, then the most important thing is to examine the appearance of the packaging on the shelves. Usually, engineering drawings do not convey the impact on the shelves; moreover, in the early stage of packaging procurement, it is necessary to reduce the prototypes that are considered too expensive. Over the past few years, more and more purchases have been determined through cost-cutting methods.
Dordan found that when communicating the form and function of packaging concepts with customers, the preparatory work between the concept and reality is very important.
Dordan previously subscribed to Ideas, which enabled the company's designers to create engineering drawings and wireframes (Figure 1). We also used this tool to generate ray-tracing images (please refer to the ray-tracing image 2). Ray-tracing images help to convey the overall shelf impact of the parts, but they take a week to generate and the visual effect is not accurate because plastic does not look like "what you can see". By merging Ideas with NX, Dordan began to try the 3D modeling and realistic rendering options provided by NX, laying the foundation for the design of the hot forming process. Through the description of customer case studies, one can gain a deeper understanding of how Dordan's hot forming process design saves time and money, while reducing risks and accelerating decision-making speed.
