An innovative packaging solution developed by RPC Superfos and RPC Promens for Norway's Orkla Foods range of cold salads has won the prestigious WorldStar 2017 Award at an international packaging competition.
RPC Superfos and RPCPromens have won the prestigious WorldStar 2017 Award for their innovative packaging solution for Orkla Foods' range of cool salads in Norway.
Orkla Foods commissioned RPCSuperfos Lidkoping (Sweden) and RPC Promens Kambo (Norway) to develop an unusual packaging to enhance the high-end appeal of its salads.
The final packaging design successfully used two resin materials and two technologies to make a thermoformed twist cup with an injection cap. The packaging developed has similarities to traditional glass bottles, which stand out as a special product in the cold pull industry. Despite the challenges posed by the use of two resin materials, the thermoformed polyethylene body achieves good compatibility with the polypropylene injection cap. The cover snaps into the locking groove of the cup and, if closed correctly, the consumer can hear a comfortable clicking sound.

The Twist cup with a threaded lid entered the WorldStar competition after winning the Nordic packaging competition ScanStar 2016 Award. She was also selected for the Danish FoodTech Award 2016.
Organized by the World Packaging Organization (WPO), the WorldStar Competition is an international award for excellence in the packaging industry. The 2017 awards ceremony took place in May during the Interpack2017 exhibition in Dusseldorf, Germany.
